Travel to Kraków

Kraków is easily reachable by several means of transport.

 By Air

There are direct flights to Kraków from several European cities. The JPII Airport in Balice (KRK) is located about 15 km away from the city centre. One can reach it by municipal bus (lines number 292, 203 or 902 at night) or fast airport train that runs to the main railway station, Kraków Główny, every 30 minutes. Detailed information can be found at the website of the airport.

It is also possible to fly to Warsaw (300 km from Kraków). The Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) is located about 10 km from the city centre. To reach Kraków one can either take a domestic flight or take a train from Warszawa Centralna to Kraków Główny. More details about the flights to Warsaw can be found here.

Another option is to fly to Katowice-Airport in Pyrzowice (KTW) and take a bus to Kraków (approximately one hour and a half, 70 km). Detailed information about the flights and the bus service can be found here.

From Balice Airport

Kraków Balice Airport is situated about 12 km east from the city centre. There is a couple of ways you can get from there:

    • TAXI – costs about 75 zł, call (0) 800 19 19 19. Very comfortable, but not the fastest one.
    • BUS/TRAM – the bus lines 208 and 292 depart on average once an hour each. The full timetable is at the bottom of this page. This is the cheapest way to travel costing 3.20 zł for a single trip ticket, 5.20 zł for a 90-minute ticket, and 16.00 zł for a 24-hour ticket (for student the tickets are 50% cheaper). A 90-minute ticket should be more than enough to get to every place in the centre, however you may need to switch buses/trams once or twice. You can buy a ticket in the RELAY press at the airport salon or from the ticket vending machine on 292 line buses.

Tickets and timetables

The tickets are the same for trams and buses, and so are their prices.

  • You can buy tickets in most newsagents, kiosks, and ticket vending machines
  • Ticket vending machines can be found at most of the stops in the centre, at other major stops (usually start/end stops of trams) and in some trams and buses (all the new buses and trams have one)
  • Ticket vending machines in trams and buses sometimes do not accept amount of money which would require change, especially when it is 0,05 zł, so it is good to have the exact amount of money you need to buy a ticket
